The campaign will address the pet poverty crisis that has been worsened by inflation
As inflation continues to push prices higher, families across the United States are struggling to afford veterinary care, supplies and food for their pets. To help fight this issue, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) launched More Than a Pet, a campaign to raise awareness and provide solutions to keep families and their pets together.
“Everyone deserves to experience the love and companionship of a pet. But the welfare of companion animals is inseparable from the well-being of their families, and unequal access to pet care and resources is an overlooked national crisis,” explained Kitty Block, president , and CEO of HSUS, in an organizational release.
“By helping people access the pet care they need, we embrace the human in ‘humane.’ We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy, love and comfort that pets provide, and every family should be able to get the food, supplies and medical care their animal needs,” she continued.1
According to the organizational release, More Than a Pet will work in conjunction with 5 campaign partners, ADM, Smalls, Ollie, Motel 6, and TQL along with Grammy-winning musician Mya.1 HSU is offering the following tips on how to support people struggling in their communities:
- Sign HSUS’s petition to close the equality gap.
- Volunteer with HSUS’s Pets for Life and Rural Area Veterinary Services to increase access to pet care.
- Donate to your local shelter or pet food pantry
- Participate in this campaign by sharing why your pet is #MoreThanAPet at humanesociety.org/morethanapet and Smalls will donate a bowl of food for every photo shared up to $1 million to pets in need.
